A tower symbol at Hiefield is depicted on the 1590 map of Cumbria. It may have stood in the vicinity of the vanished farmstead of Hillstown (Hiefieldstown). (PastScape ref. Perriam and Robinson)

King states that 'no proper location is possible for this pele, which is shown on the east bank of the Sark, in the Debateable Land area south of 'Coome''. Cole suggests that it 'might have stood in the vicinity of the vanished farmstead of Hillstown = Hiefieldstown'.
