The remains of Haresceugh Castle consist of part of a rectangular building and a massive wall.

The manor of Haresceugh is mentioned in the 12th century, and a Hall is recorded in a conveyance of Charles II's time. The building is said to have been pulled down since 1820 (Graham).

The remains are in very poor condition, consisting of two fragments of walling, the largest being 10m long and approx 5.0m high with a smaller wall at right angles to it. There are no associated earthworks (F1 BHP 08-JUN-72). (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

This was a manorial centre. The description of the site are vague but it seems probably this was more substantial than a simple pele tower but rather less than a baronial castle.
