Documented site of a tower at Coatflat Hall, which was built on its site in 1797. (PastScape–ref. Perriam and Robinson)

Coatflat hall is a commodious dwelling one mile and a quarter from Orton, and one mile and a half from the Tebay station, rebuilt in 1797, by the late Mr. John Milner, on the site of the old hall, which was a castellated looking building, where it is said the judges on the northern circuit often regaled themselves on their way between Appleby and Lancaster. Gatehouse Comments

Perriam and Robinson (and PastScape working from them) record this as the site of a 'tower'. The given sources do not actually mention the form of the building destroyed before 1797 beyond it being 'castellated'. In Westmorland there were a number of courthouse type moated houses rather than the chamber block tower and attached hall type of manor house usual in Cumberland and Northumberland. Is there any actual evidence of the form of the medieval building?
