According to Curwen there was a yard wall at Castle Carrock which contained the remains of an old pele. A photograph shows a two-storeyed, massively-built, thatched building on the east side of the road to Brampton, opposite Castle Carrock House, and stones from it have been used to build a garden wall there. Gatehouse Comments

Stonehouse Farm, at given map reference, is recorded in the Cumbria HER (10674) as a possible 'pele tower' on circumstantial (name) evidence. This maybe the building referred to in the 'Survey of Gilsland 1589' as Mansion House. There is some confusion between this possible pele and the possible castle in King. Did Curwen mean pele tower or pele-house - i.e bastle? The description of a two storey building may suggest the later. The original manor house was east of the parish church. This supposed pele would be north west of the church and but may be a later replacement to the manor house. Equally it could be a vicars pele or, most probably in the opinion of Gatehouse a bastle of a lesser status tenant.
